For centuries Native Americans have played games of chance and games of dexterity. Games were played primarily for ceremonial reasons but were also played for securing fertility, causing rain, giving and prolonging life, or curing sickness. Overall, games were used to secure the guidance of the natural powers by which humanity is dominated.
Implements for stick games were perfectly tailored and symmetrical counting or dice sticks from about four to seven inches long. They were customarily kept in bundles. Other sticks were more ornate with alternating painted bands of red and black. Other implements were pebbles, acorns, wooden disks and beaver-teeth dice.
The ‘Stix’ of Stix Sports Bar originated from Indian stick games, which were the original games of wagering and was a natural part of Indian life. Wagering was simple, the winner simply took all. There were no point spreads or odds.
For Indian people winning or losing was relatively unimportant and they were unconcerned with who won or lost but more importantly the community support which poured out from playing the games. Stix Sports Bar is a gathering place for a collective sense of community support for all sports whether professional or amateur.
